Children Under 13 and Parental Consent
Global Futures Academy provides online educational programs for children, including children under 13.
Before a child under 13 participates in an online Global Futures Academy program, the parent or legal guardian will receive a direct privacy notice explaining the information Global Futures Academy expects to collect, how it will be used, and with whom it may be shared.
The parent or legal guardian must complete the enrollment process and provide the required consent before the child is given access to the course or related online services.
Parental consent may be documented through an electronically signed enrollment form and, where applicable, a payment transaction or scholarship authorization process.
A parent who does not provide the required consent cannot enroll the child in a service that requires the collection of that information.
Public or promotional use of identifiable student content is not included in the required course consent. It requires separate optional permission.
Live Virtual Classes
Live virtual classes are shared learning environments.
During a class, registered students and the instructor may see or hear a student’s:
-
first name;
-
image and voice;
-
comments and questions;
-
work and presentations; and
-
participation in learning activities.
Parents and students should not share private information such as home addresses, personal telephone numbers, passwords, or other unnecessary sensitive information during class.
The rules governing attendance, cameras, recording access, conduct, and family sharing are contained in the Global Futures Academy Virtual Learning Policies and General Policies.
Class Recordings
Global Futures Academy may record live classes.
Recordings may include a student’s first name, image, voice, comments, questions, work, presentation, chat contributions, and participation.
Recordings may be used for purposes such as:
-
providing authorized catch-up access after an absence;
-
documenting course delivery;
-
reviewing a safety, privacy, or conduct concern;
-
responding to a complaint; and
-
meeting legitimate legal, insurance, or recordkeeping needs.
Access provided to a family is limited and does not make a recording a public or permanent on-demand course archive.
Families may not copy, download, screen-record, share, post, or redistribute class recordings.
Consent to private class recording does not authorize Global Futures Academy to use the recording publicly or for promotional purposes.
Restricted Course or Family Spaces
Global Futures Academy may use an invite-only or login-protected space to share learning updates, course materials, student work, presentations, photographs, video, or other content with authorized students, parents, and legal guardians.
With the required parental consent, limited identifiable student content may be shared in that restricted space as part of the educational and family-learning experience.
Access is limited to authorized users, but no online system can guarantee that an authorized person will never copy or misuse information. Families are prohibited from redistributing identifiable content involving another student.
Group and Direct Communications
Direct communications with a family may include identifiable information about that family’s own child.
Group emails and newsletters may include:
-
general program updates;
-
de-identified examples of learning; and
-
links to identifiable content held in a restricted course or family space.
Global Futures Academy does not ordinarily place identifiable child photographs, video, audio, or attributed student work directly into group email communications.
De-Identified Content
Global Futures Academy may use or share de-identified student work, ideas, photographs, video, or other learning content.
Content is considered de-identified when the student cannot readily be identified by a member of the general public from the content itself or from the information published alongside it by Global Futures Academy.
De-identification may include removing or obscuring:
-
names;
-
faces;
-
voices;
-
contact details;
-
location information;
-
identifying captions; and
-
other identifying details or metadata.
A person who already knows the student may still recognize them from context, clothing, or other familiar characteristics. That recognition alone does not mean the content identifies the student to the general public.
De-identified content may be used in family communications, educational resources, the Global Futures Academy website, social media, and other materials.
Optional Publicity Permission
Global Futures Academy will obtain separate affirmative permission from the parent or legal guardian before publicly using a student’s identifiable:
-
image or voice;
-
work or presentation; or
-
participation in a Global Futures Academy activity.
Public use may include the Global Futures Academy website, open social media accounts, advertisements, or other public promotional materials.
Publicity permission is optional. Declining permission does not affect enrollment or participation.
A parent or legal guardian may withdraw publicity permission for future use by contacting Global Futures Academy in writing.
A request concerning identifiable material already published will be considered separately, taking account of the circumstances, applicable law, and whether the material remains within Global Futures Academy’s control.

Global Futures Academy does not sell or rent student or family personal information.

Data Retention and Deletion
We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes for which it was collected, including providing our programs, maintaining appropriate educational and business records, responding to concerns, and meeting legal, financial, safety, insurance, and regulatory obligations.
In general:

core enrollment, consent, attendance, financial, course-delivery, recording, and student-work records may be retained for up to seven years after the relevant course or the family’s last participation;

When information is no longer reasonably needed, Global Futures Academy takes reasonable steps to delete, anonymize, or securely dispose of it.
Information Security
Global Futures Academy uses reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards appropriate to the nature of the information and the size and operation of the business.
These measures may include:

limiting access to information;

using password-protected accounts and services;

using restricted or login-protected spaces;
-
maintaining account-security procedures;
-
selecting established service providers; and
-
securely deleting or disposing of information when it is no longer needed.
No website, platform, storage service, or electronic transmission can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
If a security incident affects personal information, Global Futures Academy will investigate and provide any notice required by applicable law.

Some information may need to be retained for legal, financial, safety, insurance, dispute-resolution, or recordkeeping purposes.
Deleting information necessary to provide a course or service may mean that the child can no longer participate.
Cookies and Third-Party Links
The Global Futures Academy website and its providers may use cookies or similar technologies to operate the website, maintain security, remember settings, understand general website use, or diagnose technical problems.
Global Futures Academy does not use children’s information for behavioral or targeted advertising.
The website or course materials may link to independent third-party websites or services. Those services have their own privacy practices, and families should review them before providing personal information.
Changes to This Policy
Global Futures Academy may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in its programs, technology, service providers, practices, or legal obligations. The date at the top of the policy will show when it was last updated. When a material change affects the collection, use, or sharing of information from an enrolled child, Global Futures Academy will provide additional notice and obtain new parental consent when required.
